Together with cosmetologist Marina Shcherbinina, we understand how to properly prepare a winter skin care program, what means to buy, what to postpone and what to look for when choosing cosmetics.
Features of winter care
In winter, the skin has a number of additional problems: dryness, peeling, tightness.
Such factors as wind, frost, heating devices, the transition from a warm room to a cold and vice versa (increases the risk of dehydration of the skin), as well as aggressive procedures (peeling, grinding) will provoke their occurrence.
In winter, it is necessary to replenish the lack of fat and water (even for oily skin), which means that the waste materials must be softer and nutritious.
The main myth – in the winter it is dangerous to use cosmetics, they say, it freezes and traumatizes the skin. Our skin is permeated with blood vessels, where blood constantly circulates. Consequently, the applied face cream quickly heats up and immediately absorbs. Just in frosty days it is necessary to apply the cream for half an hour before going out, but in no case do not abandon it at all.
How to choose a home skin care for the skin in winter
In winter it is worth using more delicate cleansers – milk, foam for sensitive skin, soft mousse.
It is important to remember that you should wash with lukewarm water – not cold and not hot.
The usual face cream should be replaced with a denser, with marks nourishing, cold cream, rich, repair.
Serum on a water basis can be replaced with an oil-based serum.
Sun protection factor for our region can be reduced from SPF 50 to SPF 20-30 (but if you are taking a course of chemical peelings, consult your beautician!).
Personally, I really love oils for the face. They are specially designed to care only for face and neck skin, do not leave a greasy film and give a feeling of comfort in winter. Such options are available from Medik8, Babe laboratories, Janssen.
In the composition of winter cosmetics should include nutritional oils of wheat germ, avocado, jojoba; vasoconstricting ingredients – horse chestnut, oriental citrus, green tea, red grapes. And, of course, components that help to retain moisture – all known hyaluronic acid, glycerin, mineral oil.
From the inside, you can protect the skin with Omega-3, or simply fish oil. If you do not want to take an additive in capsules, lean on linseed oil – the richest source of fatty acids.
For a long time peeling was considered a purely winter procedure. But with proper home care and conscientious use of solar protection, chemical peelings are carried out all year round.
Lasers and other rejuvenating devices using light (photorejuvenation) are also recommended to be performed in winter to avoid burns and hyperpigmentation, since they significantly increase the sensitivity of the skin to light.
If you treat acne and apply retinoids, in winter, because of the low activity of the sun, it is preferable to do this.
Another problem that is exacerbated in the winter is couperose. He does not like temperature drops, hot drinks and spicy food, a bath / sauna / solarium also suffers with difficulty. Consider this.
Solve the problem of emerging vessels help means that improve blood microcerculation. Look for such creams as an extract of flexible biloba, horse chestnut, needle, copper-containing peptides. And of course, do not forget to protect such sensitive skin from UV radiation.
